New SAMHSA CCBHC Grant Opportunities, Applications Due May 17 |
The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released two new grant opportunities in March to support CCBHC implementation and continuation. Each has different eligibility parameters. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic – Planning, Development and Implementation Grants (CCBHC-PDI) are available to clinics that are new to the CCBHC model (i.e., clinics that have not been certified as CCBHCs by their state and have not previously received a CCBHC expansion grant). This funding opportunity is designed to assist grantees as they develop and implement a CCBHC that meets certification criteria. Qualified applicants must be able to meet the requirements of a CCBHC within the first year of the grant. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic – Improvement and Advancement Grants (CCBHC-IA) are available to CCBHCs that have been certified by their states or former and current CCBHC-Expansion grant recipients that meet the CCBHC Certification Criteria requirements and did not receive funding in FY2021 under SM-21-013 and are designed to support current CCBHCs as they expand or improve their CCBHC services. Qualified applicants must be able to demonstrate compliance with CCBHC certification criteria through state certification or SAMHSA acceptance of CCBHC certification attestation within the past two years. Ohio organizations that have CCBHC grants issued under SM-20-012 or through the 2021 CARES Act Expansion Grants will be eligible to apply for this grant. Key highlights of these opportunities include:
SAMHSA hosted informational webinars on these funding opportunities during the final week of March and indicated that the slides and recordings will be posted to their grant announcement page in the first full week of April. The webinars provided a detailed description of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and confirmed that community-based behavioral health non-profits in states that do not yet have CCBHC certification are able to apply to the PDI grant but will require a letter of support from the state mental health authority. OhioMHAS has been supportive in providing these letters previously. Additionally, SAMSHA representatives encouraged organizations considering application to thoroughly review Appendix A of the NOFO to understand the various requirements and organizational registrations required to apply for the grant and begin the registration process as soon as possible.
