COVID-19 cases have continued to climb over the past several weeks, hinting at the possibility of a summer spike in Ohio and nationwide. More than 7.7% of U.S. counties are listed as having “high” COVID-19 spread, according to the U.S. CDC’s updated community levels map. More than 20% of U.S. counties are at “medium” spread.
In Ohio, 83 of the state’s 88 counties now meet the CDC’s threshold for “high incidence,” which is defined as 100 or more cases per 100,000 residents. The state’s average case rate was 291.1 per capita as of May 26—up from 269 last week and 111.7 one month ago.
