Behavioral Health Billing Solutions (BHBS) is looking for an experienced behavioral health biller to join our growing company! BHBS is a growing, Ohio-based consultation agency that offers various services to the Ohio community of Behavioral Health Agencies including full or partial billing services, CareLogic EHR evaluation/management and assessment of current billing processes.

Job Summary:

A Behavioral Health Billing Solutions Billing Specialist performs a variety of complex accounting functions for client billing, including maintenance of billing records; submitting clean claims to third party liability organizations; handling posting and management of account payments; timely billing or filing of claims for services rendered; reviewing claims that are rejected/denied/unpaid for errors or incorrect filing with the insurance carriers; billing patients and collecting for fees deemed to be the patient's responsibility; billing secondary insurance; data entry of encounter data (or fee tickets); acting as a resource to agency staff, and Evaluation and Management Documentation Guidelines. 

Job Type:

Full Time – Hourly. Flexible scheduling with prior notice, otherwise expected to be available normal business hours, 8:30am-5pm EST, to support our clientele.

Place of Work:

This position is work from home. The employer may require you, however, to work at such other locations on a temporary basis, if business operations deem necessary. The employer reserves the right to relocate you on reasonable notice to such other locations as we may from time to time require. 

Performance of Duties:

The employee agrees that during the employment period they shall devote their full business time to the business affairs of the company and shall perform their duties faithfully and efficiently subject to the direction of the executive staff of the company. You must comply with all reasonable directions given to you and observe all the policies procedures and roles of the employer as may be introduced and/or amended from time to time.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

Skill in computer applications:

  • Windows 10,
  • Office 365, Excel, Word, Outlook (Moderate/Advanced skill in Excel). There will be a skill assessment upon interview
  • Two years of experience in behavioral health billing or associates degree in related field
  • Proven Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Experience with electronic health records – Preferably CareLogic
  • Requires excellent keyboarding skills
  • Skill in ten key calculators use by touch
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

Specific Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the entire billing/AR process for one or more agencies, as assigned. 

Including but not limited to:

  • Approving and submitting claims electronically to insurance companies via clearinghouse
  • Monitoring and correcting claim issues identified before or during the billing process
  • Processing electronic remittance advice and paper explanation of benefits to reconcile to claims within the EHR
  • Accurately and ethically dropping bills to clients or secondary/tertiary payers
  • Working short pays or denials to determine ability to correct and collect on outstanding AR
  • Creating and analyzing complex financial and claims reporting for root cause problem analysis and
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Participates in weekly billing team calls
  • Working aging reports (Accounts Receivable) for commercial insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Answers questions from clients (agencies) and insurance companies
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and adhere to all guidelines and regulations regarding patients’ medical records and billing records.
  • Follows HIPAA Policies and Procedures
  • Ensures timely collection of amounts past due
  • Develop, implement, and consistently seek improvement in policies and procedures for all billing and reimbursement functions to ensure department activities are carried out professionally and ethically, and that clients are treated respectfully
  • Participates and coordinates with the administrative team and other departments to ensure that all daily activities are completed efficiently, and company goals are achieved.
