Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging is an over 110-year old Cleveland-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to support caregivers and empower all people to age well through research, consumer-responsive services, and client advocacy. We are currently seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the full-time role of Clinical Social Worker, LISW for Behavioral Health Services. 

Position Summary:

  • Provide counseling, case management and consultation to the client, families and/or the caregivers. Cases assigned will be clients with physical and emotional problems who require clinical interventions, supportive and facilitative services;
  • Work closely with families and/or caregivers and serve as client advocates in a variety of health, mental health and legal systems. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following description is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities of the position:
  • Conduct assessment interviews and provide clinical diagnosis using the DSM-5 criteria;
  • Serve as a case manager for a caseload, which includes clients requiring the application of clinical techniques and innovative approaches;
  • Provide counseling interventions to address the bio-psychosocial aspects of aging to clients, caregivers and family members;
  • Mobilize resources for clients, which may include working with the support network, interaction with community agencies, hospitals, nursing homes assisted living facilities, advocates on behalf of the client for entitlement, assistance with alternative living arrangements and more;
  • Provide the necessary direct service hours to meet the performance standards set by the Behavioral Health Services Department;
  • Responsible for completeness of the case records, including all necessary ESI and funder requirements;
  • Handle crisis situations which may arise from their caseload bringing knowledge of crisis intervention for case stabilization;
  • Escort clients to necessary appointments in his/her own automobile as last resource per transportation policy.
  • Provide timely and accurate data to the client Electronic Health Record;
  • Stay informed on new development and treatment modalities for clinical social services to elderly clients. 

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

  • May be assigned liaison responsibilities to special projects and outreach efforts;
  • Provide requested data for applied research projects.
  • Cooperate and partner with supervisor as well as other departmental staff in the development and implementation of evaluation designs for BRIA client services.
  • Provide education and consultation in the agency and the community as assigned;
  • Participate in staff meetings and required department meetings;
  • Prepares all BRIA reports in a timely and complete fashion;
  • Submit all statistics and client data in a timely manner;
  • Serve on agency or departmental committees appropriate.
  • Provides supervision to Senior Companions. 

Qualifications:

A.  Specific knowledge, training or skills required to perform the duties of this position including specific courses, training programs or required certifications. 

  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
  • Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program;
  • Current and unrestricted Ohio social work licensure and ability to practice independently (LISW);
  • Must have a current and valid Ohio driver’s license and automobile insurance;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness [as described by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V of the American Psychiatric Association];
  • Knowledge of aging and cultural diversity issues strongly preferred;
  • Must have excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of computer programs (Microsoft Outlook and Office);
  • Demonstrated proficiency in database management of electronic health record;
  • Strong planning and organization skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential, as are abilities to prioritize work and consistently meet deadlines, and to work as a team player with all departments. 

B.  Previous Experience that is necessary to qualify for this position:

  • At least 2 years of experience in social work, counseling or related clinical field
  • Prior experience working with older adults preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard and telephone;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work;
  • Light to moderate lifting is required, up to 25 pounds;
  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling;
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required;
  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic);
  • Ability to work in a confined area;
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time;
  • Work environment is stressful at times.
