Children Who Witness Violence Clinician (LISW/LPCC)

The purpose of this position is to provide managed behavioral health care services in a culturally diverse community to children who have witnessed violence. Provides emotional and parental support for parents regarding the impact on their children of witnessing violence. The position provides face-to-face screening, assessment, crisis intervention and referral services in response to requests for assistance with mental health issues.



  • Interviews clients, prepares case histories and outlines services provided by the agency. Refers clients to more appropriate programs as needed.
  • Assesses the impact of witnessing abuse on the child, the group readiness of the child and the support needs of the abused parent.
  • Develops and conducts psycho-educational support groups for children. Conducts post group interviews with children and/or families. Recommends follow-up services where necessary and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Provides parenting support and referral services for parents.
  • Coordinate treatment with other agencies, services and other programs within the agency.
  • Complete case notes on intake process, treatment plan and client’s progress in accordance with OI/OA guidelines.
  • Provide consultation and education service to community groups by assisting in program planning, giving educational talks and lectures, and by consulting on specific cases.
  • Maintain required productivity expectation.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and administrative meetings as required by the Clinical Services Coordinator and/supervisor.
  • Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence. Provides presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.



In addition to an office setting, a significant part of the work is performed in the community during outreach, i.e., client’s home, school, shelter, emergency rooms, etc. Because of the variety of environments and physical conditions that will be encountered, this individual must be able to successfully interact and navigate in all types of facilities and weather conditions. This includes being able to walk, climb stairs, navigate changing surface conditions including wet, slippery, and icy grounds, and function in the proximity of electrical appliances, open flames and in areas with poor air quality including potentially smoke-filled rooms. This individual may periodically be required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds. Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others. The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Due to the extensive computer work this individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate required equipment



A Master's Degree in Social Work with a LISW/LPCC license in the State of Ohio is required.
